June 2023! It’s time for a midyear update and reflection.

Here is my updated Seven Levels:

No, there have not been a lot of changes. For one, I have been doing a deep dive into identifying my maternal great grandfather (that red block on Generation 4). I am pretty confident that I am in the right family line, and have narrowed it down to three men. I now have a third family member who tested at Ancestry. I’ll be getting back to that project soon.

My other big research project this year, has been confirming (or disproving) the relationship between my paternal 1st and 2nd great grandfathers. While I have my 2nd great grandfather marked as a “3”, I decided there is a need to re-visit this relationship – primarily because there is very limited documentary evidence. This journey has involved two states (TN and NC) and a multitude of counties. I have scoured census records, school census records, tax records, and deeds. I think I’m close to having a reasonably conclusive answer. Fingers crossed and stay tuned!

My plan for the rest of the year is to continue focusing on these two projects. After that, I would like to make more progress getting levels three and four to a “6”. Or at least all 5s.

What are you working on this year?
